Emre Move In The Balance
By Tyne-Talk June 12 2008
Just 12 days ago Fenerbahce were claiming that they had secured the services of Newcastle United midfielder Emre Belozoglu when their official website published the following statement: "Fenerbahce reached an agreement with Newcastle United in order to sign the Turkish superstar Emre Belozoglu."
Since then Fenerbahce manager Zico who orchestrated the move has departed from the club and the transfer is hanging in the balance. A £4million deal was arranged between the clubs and Emre had agreed personal terms, but the final paperwork is yet to be complete due to the Euro 2008 finals.

The 27 year old Turkish international was released early by Newcastle United prior to the end of the 2007/2008 Premier League season enabling him to link up with the Turkish side In preparation for the Euro 2008 campaign, a move which was considered odd by many fans considering he was said to be still recovering from an injury.

Emre who failed to participate in Turkey's game against Switzerland yesterday due to picking up a hamstring injury in training, is likely to be offered to the new manager but reports suggest whoever that may be will also have the option to terminate all talks and shelve the move.

Whatever. That's a bargain price. We can get that for him from another side easily. Weren't Bayern Munich rumored to have offered like £18M a couple of Summers ago? I'm not that worried about it.

This is a crock. Goes from £10M+ target for Bayern to free transfer in one season. Ridiculous.

Perhaps this has been a budget trimming transfer.

Removing an injury prone player to free up money to bring in some fresh faces

and offer them some competitive wages.

I imagine you're right, Tweek. Still-this was handled poorly. He's the same player he was for the last seasons and at any point before the last season we could have gotten good money for him.

by staying away from turkey for three years, emre has avoided 15 months of national service. that is a lot of army time for someone with the lifestyle choices a premier league footballer has. i think this could be why he left turkey in the first place, and i think its why he has gone back there this particular summer, as his time is up. up to him, and i wont criticise him for it as i'd be tempted to do the same in his shoes.

but i wont miss him at newcastle one little bit

I agree Exile, for that reason is the only one that seems valid under these circumstances
