14 Cards As Butt Faces Chelsea
By Tyne-Talk April 30 2008
Newcastle United manager Kevin Keegan will risk the possibility of Nicky Butt picking up a 3 match suspension to be implemented at the beginning of next season, should he pick up another yellow card this season. Butt currently has 14 yellow cards to his name this season 1 more will see a ban imposed.
The 33 year old has been one of Newcastle United's most consistent players this season and has featured in 37 games this season in all competitions and started 35. During this time he has scored 3 goals for the club.

Midfielder, Butt, has already served 2 suspensions this season - 1 at each 5 card interval, he picked up his 14th  yellow card against West Ham last weekend, but for Keegan the here and now is what is important and a suspension (should it happen) in August can be sorted out at the time.

Keegan said of the situation:

"I will have a chat with Nicky about it all, but my feeling is that he is a vital player for us.

Nicky is always the sort of player who is going to get booked because he is so competitive and he goes in there and tries to win challenges. He has got to handle that.

When you are doing as many as he does over 90-odd minutes, you are going to mis-time some."

Re: 14 Cards As Butt Faces Chelsea
send him on his hols now, i hope we compete in our two remaining games but they arent as important as the opening games of the new season. maybe faye could fill in for him, giving edgar more match time in defence, or barton could be asked to take more responsibility in these two closing games, and take butt's role.
whatever we do, i'd like to make sure butt isnt suspended next season for something minor in a dead game

You can see him being carded against Chelsea almost certainly. You could even put money on it.

Oh yeah, he will be carded against Chelsea. Especially if he is talking to some of his buddies from Man U and they may want someone taking care of before the CL Final. Ha Ha. Nah, but in all seriousness, Butt without a card ? Ain't gonna happen if he starts
