Transfer News? "I Don't Know"
By Tyne-Talk April 26 2008
Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan has told how in response to transfer questions his honest answer can only be "I don't know". Keegan has collectively, with owner Mike Ashley & chairman Chris Mort drawn up a list of targets which has been handed over to Executive Director of Football, Dennis Wise, Vice-President of Player Recruitment, Tony Jimenez & Recruitment Technical Director Jeff Vetere.

It is now down to Dennis and his team to secure the signings of future players.

Keegan said:

"It's nice because people believe we can get big-name players, but we have just got to keep it real and not let people draw us down one-way streets.

But there's no point parking players here who are squad players. A few people rang me and said they had really good squad players, but we have got enough squad players here."

He added:

"We (all involved)
had a meeting a couple of weeks ago. We really put our two lists together because they have got a massive expertise in Europe.

While we on our list have got all the top ones, they are looking at the ones who maybe you can get who will be the next top ones, but are younger.

When we out them together, it was quite interesting. That's it now. If someone asks me how we are getting on with our targets, I can honestly say, ‘I don't know' because I am not party to that.

But I will know the minute they are complete or have failed, I guess."
