Match Preview/Stats/Thread: West Ham v Newcastle
By Tyne-Talk April 25 2008
Newcastle United travel to Upton Park this weekend where they face a West Ham team who are determined to see their final League position securely in the top half of the Premiership table. Tomorrow's game will be the Hammers 500th Premier League match and they will be hoping to override a confident Newcastle side who are unbeaten in their last 6 games.
Newcastle United have scored 8 goals in their last 3 trips to Upton Park, and they have won their last two visits. With Michael Owen on form having scored 6 goals in 6 games, Keegan's men will be looking for a repeat performance.

West Ham have won just 2 games in their last 6, losing 3 and drawing 1. Newcastle have won 4 and drawn 2 of their last 6.

Newcastle could potentially go above Tottenham Hotspur should they win against West Ham and other fixtures go their way, West Ham however cannot go anywhere in the table but could be 3 points closer to Blackburn should they win.

West Ham could be without Anton Ferdinand who has been suffering with a hamstring injury; Former Newcastle players, Craig Bellamy, Kieron Dyer and Lee Bowyer are all out injured, however they welcome back Dean Ashton who has returned to full training after missing out last week. Former Newcastle player Scott Parker is likely to start, whilst Nolberto Solano tends to start on the bench.

Newcastle will once again be without Shay Given (groin),  who is out for the rest of the season, Emre (calf), Cacapa (groin), Ramage (knee), Milner (foot), Carr (hamstring) are all close to returning.

Last weekend it was suggested that Milner and Carr both looked likely to return this weekend, however everything has gone quiet and we will have to wait until the teams are announced to find out.

Keegan's starting 11 is expected to remain unchanged with 3 strikers on the pitch and Steve Harper in goal, who has kept 4 clean sheets in the last 5 games.

Aside from the general statistics below, West Ham and Newcastle seem to be pretty level when it comes to performance.

I'm pretty confident about this match, we're more comfortable at the back and scoring goals whereas West Ham have injury problems and aren't in good form really, I'm predicting a 2-1 Toon win.

Re: Match Preview/Stats/Thread: West Ham v Newcastle
one for the cospiracy theorists....uriah rennie was linesman at roker park in the 80's during a game against newcastle in which two sunderland players received endless racist abuse from some of the people in the newcastle end (idiots). there are those who think this experience stuck with rennie, as he gives newcastle nothing when refereeing our games.
he seems (just from listening to the radio) to be acting true to form again today, but it must also be said that west ham are well on top, and getting at our defence regulalry and threatening to score again at any time

Appears that West Ham have been well on top and the only 2 chances we create are turned into goals at the end of the half....let's hope we keep on playing like we have done in the last 4 mins!

West Sham are growing slowly into the second half... not really up for it since the start.. but they are growning.

We are stuttering a bit but solid work from Taylor and Edgar.

Bookings don't draw a suspension now at this late a stage in the season, only sendings off I do believe,
