Two ex Newcastle United players have given interviews this week, each contradicting the views of the other. Former winger Nolberto Solano has praised the Newcastle supporters ahead of their trip to Upton Park at the weekend. He may join former United players Lee Bowyer, Kieron Dyer, Craig Bellamy and Scott Parker as West Ham aim to finish in the top 10.
He said:

"Newcastle fans are the greatest. Unfortunately, I did not get the chance to say thanks to them when West Ham were up at St James's Park earlier in the season because I was not in the squad of 16.

I was actually at the match, but because I was not involved I kept a low profile and stayed in the stands. But while I am not sure whether I will start against Newcastle on Saturday, I hope to be involved.

I would love to get the kind of reception Les Ferdinand always seemed to get from the United fans. If the Toon Army give me a good reception and then boo me as soon as I touch the ball - like they did with big Les - then that's fine with me.

When I was at Newcastle I always did my best and I think they appreciate that. I am surprised if Titus said anything bad about them because they really are among the best in the world.

And in a way the fans down in East London are just the same.

We have so many injuries here at West Ham that it reminds me of last season at St James's, and it will be a tough game for both sides at Upton Park on Saturday.

After nearly being relegated last season we are hoping to finish in the top half of the Premier League this time round, and if we can beat Newcastle on Saturday we will probably manage this.

I have gone from being a Geordie boy to an Essex boy, but things have worked out well for me this season. However, I have to admit I do miss playing at St James's, although I do not miss the weather up there."

Former defender Titus Bramble on the other hand wasn't quite so complimentary.

He said:

"Maybe I should have moved on from Newcastle to get first-team football earlier.

The Newcastle fans aren't as good as everybody says. They think they should be winning things - but why? They've not won a trophy for 50 years.

The fans got Sam Allardyce the sack there. Can you believe that? The fans up there are powerful but I think he would have brought them success.

It all got rather personal and it hurt. People just jumped on the bandwagon and started saying this and that about me. I used to get quite down but friends and team-mates told me not to let it bother me."

Nobby quality on and off the pitch, Titus not so much. If you gave your all like Nobby did Titus maybe the fans could have respected you more.

To be honest I dont blame Titus at all for coming out and saying this. I used to live next door to him and idiots used to come past his house in the early hours of the morning (every week) and shout abuse. Once they even threw a bin over his wall. If you go to the game and voice your opinion, then this is fair enough, but to abuse a player in their own home is taking thing too far.

I don't think going to his house was right but he was awful. A man that seemed to care more about the price of chips in Mongolia than kicking the round, white thing hurling towards the white sticks at an alarming rate!

Whilst I don't agree with with abuse off the field, he wouldn't have suffered it on the pitch if he was a half decent player!
