Milner Out Till West Ham Match
By Tyne-Talk April 19 2008
Newcastle United's James Milner will not feature in tomorrow's Tyne-Wear derby after failing to regain his fitness in time. The 22 year old midfielder had been desperate to play at St James's Park after scoring the equaliser earlier in the season at The Stadium of Light.
Milner has been out with a foot injury for the last 5 weeks since Newcastle lost against Liverpool on the 8th March - the last game they lost in the Premier League.

Keegan said:

"James is doing well, but we are going to err on the side of caution and not rush him back and not involve him on Sunday.

But I fully expect he'll be with us when we go West Ham
 next weekend."

No need to rush him back really, same situation as Given.

Definately, had he have played and niggled the injury, Keegan would have been cursed for rushing him for the Derby match

So what do we think happens formation/position-wise when Jimmy returns to regular action? Personally I thought he'd do well in a more central role for a couple of seasons so I hope he's slotted right into where Geremi has played...when he breaks in, of course.winking smiley

he could play further forward than that as well, for either owen or martins. maybe the freedom to attack without feeling the need to cover back quite so much will help him produce more. he is good enough to contribute lots more goals than he has so far, and i'm looking forward to seeing him play in our new attacking formation

Butt off, deserves a rest. Geremi more central and Milner on the right.

Elements from the past and the future combine them to create something twice as good as either!

Re: Milner Out Till West Ham Match
geremi cant give us what nicky butt has though, he cant get around enough. maybe milner would be tried out in a different formation?
long term, should we expect the 4 3 3 to continue or is this formation just making the best of the players who are fit and available? maybe if minler nzogbia and emre had been in recent squads and certain others were unfit instead, a different solution would have been found. be nice to think we could be equipped to change formations as required and stay effective, once things are more settled
