Both Chairman Chris Mort and Manager Sam Allardyce have this week come forward and taken responsibility for the teams performance and aim to identify the key issues with regards to Newcastle's poor performances.
Many a season have Newcastle fans sat in the stands and wondered how exactly they let another win slip past the hands of the defence or how and "easy" game was lost by messy football.
Like most of those either directly involved with the club or those indirectly paying the wages (ie the fans) Mort has realised that continuity is the critical factor;
He said:
"We need to take away the rollercoaster aspect of the club.
there's a danger of over optimism after a few wins and a massive amount of pessimism if we lose.
We have to make sure we keep taking the club forward, and it would be wrong to have a major negative reaction if we lost two games on the trot.
If we're going to take the club where we want it to be, we must take a longer term view on things."
Unfortunatly continuity can only be achieved when a manager is in his role for a long period of time. Success isnt instant and one problem that Newcastle United FC has is the rate they get through managers. Speculation has been fuelled by this weeks media over who will succeed current manager Sam Allardyce.
Mort added:
"Talk of other managers coming in is disappointing. It's tittle tattle, and it's unfortunate because there are lots of fans who hear it and are concerned that it's actually correct, when it's not."
Big Sam, speaking ahead of Newcastle's clash with rivals Sunderland also gave a statement this week with regards as to who should take responsibility to the rollercoaster results that his team have been pulling in. He refers specifically to last weekends 4-1 defeat against portsmouth.
"The players have to take responsibility, but I have to accept responsibility more than anyone because I am the manager. The buck stops with me.
I never expected to see what I saw last weekend against Portsmouth, that sort of thing should not happen to Newcastle at St James' Park.
I have to make sure the fans never see that sort of result or performance again."
