Mark's Columns

Mark Deeks is 26 and has been a Toon fan for as long as he can remember. He has a season ticket in the NW corner of the Leazes Stand next to Big Dougie! Hailing from North Tyneside, he moved to Wakefield when he was 18 to go to uni and ended up stopping 7 years as a full time ambassador for all things toon related and part time music teacher. Or that could be the other way round. He now looks after the music department at New College Durham. His favourite toon player of all time is Rob Lee, his favourite current players are "Little Craig" and Olly "Legend" Bernard. Mark was crap at football at school.

COLUMNS

Janaury 2005 - 2005 is here and we find the Toon somewhat struggling do we not? 12th at the time of writing is not what we had in mind at the start of the season for sure. And I for one felt sure that Souness could be the man to break our trophy duck. Of course, that may still happen with the draws for both FA and UEFA Cups definitely falling into the “could have been worse” category.

November 2004 - With the exception of the away wins at Palace and Sochaux, things seem to have gone well and truly pear shaped. If we weren’t already a bit thin at the back, injuries to Carr and O’Brien haven’t helped. Along with this, we seem to have developed a worrying knack for creating chances but being unable to put games to bed and kill opponents off.

October 2004 - Here we go again. Souey is now firmly in charge and it’s got to be a case of “so far so good”. After all, since he was appointed, it’s 5 wins and 2 draws in all competitions.

September 2004 - What a month this was! Dyer refusing to play on the wing for his club, Woodgate sold to Real Madrid, bids for Wayne Rooney, and Sir Bobby Robson sacked - with Graeme Souness appointed to replace him!

August 2004 - Mark's first column of the 2004/05 season, highlighting his views on our summer spending and the season ahead.
