DONE: Newcastle Sign Sibierski
By Nick Raynor
August 31 2006
With just hours to go until the transfer deadline, Newcastle United have signed Antoine Sibierski from Manchester City.

The midfielder, who is also capable of playing as a striker, has signed on a 1-year-deal.

The 32-year old does not fit in with Roeder’s plans for a younger squad, and on just a 1 year deal it shows signs of panic buying from Newcastle.

He has moved less than 4 hours before the deadline shuts for an undisclosed fee, and will be eligible to play against Fulham.

The Frenchman has played for Lille, Auxerre, Nantes, Lens and Manchester City before making the move to Tyneside and whilst the fans will be slightly underwhelmed by the move, they are sure to support him.

Sibierski played in Manchester City's 3-0 win over Newcastle last season, which turned out to be Graeme Souness' final game in charge before being sacked.

With not much time left, Newcastle are desperate to bring in a defender, but it seems less and less likely.
