Chris Porter
The first Lanarkshire derby between Motherwell and Hamilton in 19 years ended in a comfortable win for the Well, thanks to a Chris Porter double.
There were two changes to the Well side from last week's win at Inverness, with Paul Quinn back from suspension replacing Jamie Murphy and Marc Fitzpatrick restored to the line up in preference to Steven McGarry.
Accies started well with Graeme Smith having to save from Richard Offiong early on. But Motherwell took a grip of the game and eventually took the lead in the 37th minute after chances had been spurned by Sutton and Quinn.
When Stephen Hughes was fouled by Alex Neill at the edge of the box it allowed Bob Malcolm to fire a free kick soaring over the wall and it was flicked past Cerny by the head of Chris Porter.
The lead should have been short lived as Accies could've pulled a goal back before the break but Corcoran fired when put clean through by Simon Mensing.
After the break Well looked to seal the points and created chance after chance with Chris Porter heading against the post with the best of them. He made up for this minutes later when he doubled the lead.
Clarkson created space at the edge of the box and hammered in a shot which was turned over the line at close range by Porter. Motherwell saw out time comfortably in the closing minutes for an emphatic win.
Accies threw four me up front in an effort to get something from the game but they could barely create any kind of dent in the Well defence. In fact the danger was at the other end with Murphy and Porter being denied by Cerny.
