Wroe stuns club with transfer request

Wroe - 10 goals last term
By Sebastian Gibb
May 22 2008
Colin Walker has been dealt an early blow ahead of next season with the news that influencial midfielder Nicky Wroe has asked to leave the club. This just days after Walker completed the signings of goalkeeper Michael Ingham and utility man Mark Greaves. His likely departure means that City will be sifting through the list of players on free transfers, hoping to add numbers to the midfield area.

A club statement on Wroe's decision read: "Everyone is very disappointed the player is not committed to the forthcoming campaign."

Better news though is the double swoop for Ingham and Greaves.  Ingham enjoyed a loan spell with the club five years ago and Col revealed that he didn't take much persuading to make the move:

"He's got an affinity with the club. He wanted to come back and play here, I didn't have to sell the club to him at all."

Watching from afar, I think the most important development for City is that the repayments for BC have been taken over by the council. The release of £132k per year repayments must help in terms of palyer recruitment for next season.

Excellent news for us, impressed with the way the board and City of York Council have worked together to help the club move forward. Hope we can improve on the field too next season.

£15 k for Wroe, must be the first time we have actually made some money on a transfer in years !! (esp after the Clayton / Hibs debacle).....
So were still £12k up on the deal after the op costs are deducted !!(Sm100)

Good business ....

I hadn't thought of it like that to be honest - good point. I know Wroe is just doing the best for himself but a bit of loyalty never goes amiss. Any news on potential signings?
