Roberto Di Matteo

Dons manager Roberto Di Matteo was "delighted" with the vitally important three points his side picked up against Bristol Rovers. Goals from Ali Gerba and Luke Chadwick enabled Dons to keep the pressure on 2nd place Peterborough United despite a late scare.

Roberto spoke to BBC Three Counties Radio following the match:

Roberto: "We're delighted with the three points, I thought we deserved to win. We were the better side, created enough chances to win the game and scored two, and we had more good chances to put a third one in. Conceding one late on from a set-piece was disappointing, but at the end of the day we won."

Question: "That's the most important thing, obviously, but it was a bit unnecessary in a way, you were coasting before it went in; was it just a lack of concentration that led to that goal?"

R: "Well there was a foul on Sean O'Hanlon to be honest, he was pushed over. But I agree with you, we should do better in those circumstances."

Q: "But huge positives to take out of the game, because two players who maybe owed you a performance; Ali Gerba, whose not had too many chances but did well last Saturday [against Brighton], and followed that up with a goal and Luke Chadwick, who maybe hasn't quite been on top form, but had a good game and capped it with a goal today."

R: "Absolutely, Ali Gerba's in good shape at the moment, he's working hard for the team and scoring goals, which is very important for a centre forward. He's scored one and made the assist for the second. Chadwick just needs to play games, obviously he's had a few injuries and it just takes a little while to get back to top form."

Q: "You might have gone into these games concerned about where the goals would come from with Sam Baldock and Aaron Wilbraham injured, but maybe Ali Gerba's shown a run of games is all he needed, because he hasn't had that recently."

R: "Maybe, but he had a very good spell in November and December as well. We know his qualities, at the end of the day I'm happy we have those strikers, because it's a long season. We've got two out, we were able to put two in, fortunately, so we're covered in that area."

Q: "The win has pushed you a little bit closer to Peterborough, and the automatic promotion dream, but perhaps more crucially it's kept you away from teams like Tranmere and Scunthorpe, who have been winning and are around the playoffs."

R: "It was important for us to pick up three points again, as you said the teams behind us are winning too, so although they [Scunthorpe] have one game left to catch up we are in a very good position now we're a few points ahead."

Q: "Three wins on the trot now, and things have turned around very quickly; after Leeds, it all seemed a bit doom and gloom, but suddenly, three wins, six goals, and everyone's going home happy."

R: "Leeds was the ninth game in 28 days, and excuse me for saying it again, but we don't have a massive squad, and it was just very demanding for the players. It was too much for us, it was difficult, and you could see after the Leeds game we had a week of normal training, the players could recharge their batteries and we've now put on three wins."
