Dons manager Roberto Di Matteo believed a rest during the week helped his side secure a 2-0 win against Brighton. A refreshed looking MK side took three points thanks to first half goals from Ali Gerba and Jason Puncheon.

Gerba gave the Dons the lead on the half hour mark, rounding off a lovely team move, before Puncheon's header from a Mark Wright cross sealed the win just before half-time. With Gerba in the side after a spell on the bench and Wright making his first start since January, along with a debutant in Stephen Gleeson, the Dons looked a fresh, reinvigorated side and Di Matteo told BBC Three Counties Radio that that factor contributed to the victory.

Roberto: "I think you could see that after a normal week the players had recharged a little bit and had a bit of their sharpness back."

Question: "Important obviously to get the first goal against a team that maybe would have been happy to go home with a point, and you got that after half an hour and then followed it up [with a second goal] and that put them to bed really."

R: "We don't have problems going forward, lately it's just been keeping it solid at the back and we managed to do that today as well."

Q: "They did have a few chances though; were you slightly disappointed that a couple of times they were let in and [Lloyd] Owusu and [Craig] Davies had very good chances at points in the match?"

R: "Yes, but it's impossible to not give the opponent anything. It doesn't happen in any game but luckily Willy [Gueret] made a great save in the first half, which was very important, and we were able to keep a clean sheet."

Q: "You had to make some changes today, all of them enforced; Alan Navarro was suspended, Stephen Gleeson came in for him; he certainly looked cultured and assured in the midfield."

R: "Yes, he's got good players around him as well, and he looked quite confident and comfortable so it was good."

Q: "Any concerns about throwing Mark Wright in, having not played since January; were you concerned he wouldn't be 100% fit?"

R: "No, I didn't have any concerns, he's showed in the past that he can deliver and he had a very good game today."

Q: "And obviously Ali Gerba came in and again, he hasn't played for a while, but scored a very, very good goal, well finished."

R: "It was good build-up and a very good finish, very clinical from him."

Q: "You've not gained any ground on the top two, or on Peterborough more so, as they won again today, but cemented your place in the playoff places and got a bit of confidence back going into the final few games."

R: "We've got six games left now and we just have to think about scoring as many points as we can and finish on a brighter note."

Q: "A good crowd in, nearly 16,000, and I suppose it's not the most important thing, three points are, but it's important that when you do get a good crowd, you get a few of them to come back by putting on a performance."

R: "Of course, it helps if the team has a good afternoon, plays some good football, scores and wins the game; it keeps everybody happy and as you say, maybe some of them will come back."
