Laws's reign as Owls manager has been marked by his adept loan moves. Five temporary signings aided the climax to last season's Championship survival campaign. Now the Wednesday manager is finding that the right talent is not easy to find in the free-transfer market - though it is understood that he does have one deal in the bag, for Burnley midfielder James O'Connor.

He will have no hesitation in borrowing suitable players if that turns out to be necessary.

Laws admits: "I won't be rushed into signing players who I don't think will improve our side. If I have to wait and use the loan market, I will do."

The first port of call for him was an analysis of all the players who have been released by their clubs at the end of the 2007-08 season.

"There's not a lot there that jumps out at you; not a lot of players that I would sign to improve our side."

But the Owls boss is pressing ahead with attempts to make two or three full signings this summer

Wednesday cannot afford to splash out big fees but are hoping that past investment in players such as Akpo Sodje and Francis Jeffers will reap dividends in 2008-09 as they come back from injuries.

The five who ended last season on loan at Hillsborough were Adam Bolder, Bartosz Slusarski, Franck Songo'o, Ben Sahar and Graham Kavanagh, and Michael Johnson was a big loan hit earlier in the campaign.

i can see this season being another season of loan deals with no money to spend on the transfer market.

personally i cannot see a takeover happening before the start of the season and i am waiting to see what the next story coming out of hillsborough is, something is going to be said as they need to ger the sales of season tickets going
