Sturrock Blames Sacking On Walker

King Paul Sturrock
By Stuart Truman April 24 2008
Former Wednesday supremo Paul Sturrock has revealed the reason he believes he was sacked from his job at Hillsborough - because of chief executive Kaven Walker. The now - Argyle boss made a poor start to his third season as Wednesday boss but his dismissal led to mass protests against the Wednesday board following his sacking -just weeks after being offered a new deal at S6

And now Sturrock has revealed in the tribunal for former chief scout Peter Eustace - who is pursuing a claim for unfair dismissal against the club - that he was shown the Hillsborough door after a fallout with the Owls' CEO.

The former Owls boss revealed at the hearing that he spoke to Walker about a phonecall he took from former Owls boss Chris Turner, who informed him that Walker had said Sturrock was not capable of managing a Championship club.

Sturrock said: 'I took Mr Walker to task over this, but he denied making the statement. I did not believe him, and I was dismissed when the chairman sided with Kaven Walker.'

The Scot has been the most successful manager in recent times at S6, helping Wednesday to a memorable promotion from League One during his first season in charge, giving Wednesday fans a day to remember in teh Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

He also helped the Owls survive in their first season back in the Championship before having his toughest spell as owls boss at the start of his third season in charge, which prompted his sacking according to reports at the time.
