Opposing Fans View : Sheffield United

By Eye of the Tiger
February 25 2009

On the eve of the FA Cup 5th round replay between Hull and Sheffield United Tiger Talk went in search of a Blades fan . I found my way onto Blades Mad part of the Footy mad network where I Found Carruthers who was a helpful chap and answered all my questions . For the article he would like to be called Lord Carruthers and he gets his wish .

Below are "Lord Carruthers'" (The voice of Blades-Mad) answers. See if you can spot the subtle hints of sarcasm within his answers.

Q.how long have you supported Sheffield United and why did you choose the them?
You don't choose. You're BORN a Blade. We are our own breed. We are unique. We are special.

Q.What do think of your season so far?

Below par, failed to meet (over the top) expectations set by the chairman.

Q.Are you happy to still be in the cup or do you feel it’s a distraction ?

I'm delighted. Scraping past Charlton in the last round was one of the happiest days of my life.

Q.How do you feel about the selling of James Beattie in January and has it left your strike force light?

Shocking business, awful fee, unambitious, although he was on wages we could not afford to keep paying, in case we don't go up. We actually have more strikers now than we had when Beattie was here, but it's a case of quantity over quality, and we were left short of a target man whilst Henderson was suspended. We have only signed a short term solution. We need a target man you see, as we're a big, ugly team who can only play one way.

Q.do you think you can maintain your push for the play-offs?

Indeed we can, we will finish 6th.

Q.Who do you consider your star player?

Nick Montgomery, arguably the only player in our entire squad who has international class and can offer something different.

Q.Which Sheffield United player has really surprised you this season and performed above your expectations?

Kyle Naughton has came out of the blue and became one of the brightest young prospects in the country.

Q.Which Blades player has really disappointed you this season?

David Cotterill and Brian Howard haven't made the impacts expected of them.

Q.Which player in the Hull side do you think will cause your side Problems?

Caleb Folan, if he plays, a real physical presence who will be hard to contain, especially if, as looks the case, we have to do without Matt Kilgallon.

Q.Who do you think will make it into the 6th round Hull or Sheffield United?

Sheffield United, as we are by far the greatest team, the world has ever seen. Thus meaning we are a better team than yourselves.

Q.Will you be heartbroken if you were knocked out of the Cup in the 5th round replay?

Heartbroken would be fair, but not spot on. Suicidal would be closer the mark.

Q.Finally If you could have any Championship player in your side, who would it be?

There are plenty of contenders. Players like Kalifa Cisse, Stephen Hunt, Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and Kevin Doyle would be very high on the list, but for me, Jason Scotland edges it due to his current unstoppable form. A pairing of Scotland and Henderson would savage most defences in the division. Even though we ideally need a centre midfielder and a left winger more, Scotland is the one catching my eye at the moment.

Tiger Talk would like to thank Lord Carruthers for his time
