Nevland in action

Super-Sub Nevland comes on for injured Zamora, and scores only goal of the match. Fulham's three points see them go to seventh in the Premier League in a Europa Cup place. Mark Schwarzer gets his 14th shut out of the season, one behind Southall's record of 15 clean sheets in a season. All in all, a good day at the Cottage.

Bobby Zamora went off after twenty minutes with back problems, which gave Eric Nevland a great oppurtunity to shine. It wasn't long before he made an impact, with some good play with Clint Dempsey to threaten the stoke goal.  On the thirty minute mark he led a break away run up the pitch, neatly passed to Johso on the right, who returned the ball back to Nevland for a neat shot past the Stoke keeper Sorensen.

Johnson himself had to go off with an injury soon after, and was replaced by Diomonsky Kamara. Fulham seemed to find an extra gear after the goal, and fluid passing, quick one twos and neat runs caused Stoke all sorts of trouble.  The Cottagers almost went two up after a clever free kick from Murphy on to Konchesky whose cross fooled the defenders, and ended up on the toe of Etuhu. Unfortunately he couldn't keep it down and it missed the net.

Half time seemed to slow Fulham down and Stoke upped their work rate to put some pressure on the home side. Fulham found their passing game again but failed to finish. Stoke rallied for the last ten minutes but to no avail.

In summary, Eric Nevland showed why he should have had a few more minutes on the pitch and a few less on the bench. A solid display from The Whites, and three points that takes them past West Ham into 7th place and an exciting last few games to race for that Europa Cup spot.

The Super Fulham three stars are:

*      Mark Schwarzer. Not  much to trouble him today, but 14 clean sheets should be applauded.

**   John Pantsil. Solid at the back, and a good all round game

*** Eric Nevland. Not just the goal, but a great display of a striker who is hungry and passionate, always working, and chasing every oppurtunity.
