Alex McLeish named the same starting 11 for a record breaking 11th consecutive league game yesterday, and a stoppage time goal from Liam Ridgewell rescued a point for Blues with a 1-1 finish against Tottenham at St. Andrews. New signing Craig Gardner was named on the bench, following his move from Aston Villa earlier this week.

Both sides had early opportunities in the game, Tottenhams coming first in the second minute when David Bentley had a shot from distance which cleared Joe Hart's bar. It only took Blues 2 minutes to reply when Lee Bowyer had a close range effort but the Spurs keeper did well and held the ball down.

Just eight minutes into the game, Luka Modric had a great chance to open the scoring for the visiting side, however from just 8 yards out he failed to find the net and hit the ball wide. Spurs began to put some pressure on Blues and McLeish's side had to stand tall in defence to prevent clear-cut scoring chances.

On 18 minutes Benitz had a great chance to give Blues the lead, he found some space right on the edge of the Spurs box and only had Gomes to beat, but fired the ball straight into the keeper. It was Benitez again in the 27th minute who took a shot from range, but he was unable to keep it down and it flew over the bar.

Just over the half hour mark,David Bently recieved the ball and after a run sent it goalwards with a good shot that Hart did well to send around the post for a corner. With the first half nearly over, Blues forced three corners in quick succession but were unable to make any of them count.

Tottenham started the second half well and within two minutes Bentley tested Joe Hart. The ball was swung across the front of the Blues box to Bentley on the right and he curled in a right footed effort which Hart managed to grab at the second attempt.

Blues should have been awarded a free kick after Wilson Palacios upended Chucho.

But instead Referee Stuart Attwell waved play on and the ball eventually fell to Spurs striker Peter Crouch who had a shot just six yards out and completely missed the target.

On 57 minutes Roger Johnson was cautioned for berating one of the referees assistants.

Blues made their first substitution of the game just before the 60 minute mark when Keith Fahey came on to replace Seb Larsson, shortly after Palacios became the second player to receive a yellow card when he brought down Lee Bowyer on the edge of the Spurs penalty area. Unfortunately McFadden hit the resulting ball straight into the wall.

McLeish made his second change of game on 65 when Spanish midfielder Michel replaced Lee Bowyer.

Spurs took the lead in the 69th minute when Gareth Bale cut the down the left wing, before pulling the ball back into the Blues area, Crouch stooped down low and got his head to the ball just a yard off the ground, It skimmed off him and fell straight into the path of Defoe who made no mistake in sending the ball past Hart from close range.

Just minutes later Blues had a golden opportunity to repair the damage when Benitez evaded the Spurs offside trap and burst through on the visitors' goal, but as the Blues frontman unleashed his shot a Spurs defender managed to get a part of his body in the way and deflect the ball for a corner. Blues still seemed determined and didn't stop pushing for an equaliser. James McFadden had Blues next chance when he shot just wide of the post on 76.

Just as it looked as if Blues were going to suffer their second defeat in the space of three days, after such their record breaking unbeaten run, Ridgewell managed to get a goal in the dying minutes when McFadden crossed the ball to the far post, Jerome headed it back across the area and there was Blues centre half Ridgewell to blast the ball home from close range for a deserved point.
