Paul Ince
Blackburn Rovers finds itself the subject of a number of potential takeover proposals, with two businessmen (Nabeel Chowdery and Chris Ronnie) from the North West of England showing a keenness to invest in the Premier League club.
However it is the report from Rovers’ chairman John Williams, that there has been “new interest from the States, which Rothschild (Blackburn’s advisors) are working on”, which has aroused the most excitement around Ewood Park.
Since the late, great Jack Walker’s death Rovers have been overtaken in transfer budgets by many other Premier League clubs - gone are the glory days of the 1990s which saw the purchasing of Shearer et al for vast sums of cash!
Yet this potential investment could see the sale of the Walker’s trustees 99.8% stake in the club and the golden days of regular title challenges could return to Ewood Park…maybe?! Either way Rovers are attracting the interest of many investors, which should mean that the club maintain a little bargaining power between the various parties.
On another note entirely, Rovers have confirmed the appointment of Archie Knox as Paul Ince's first team coach. This will see the former Scotland assistant manager joining after leaving local rivals Bolton at the end of last season.
Knox is the Rovers’ manager’s third backroom appointment following the initial arrivals of Ray Mathias and Karl Robinson, who both worked with him at MK Dons.
This week has also seen the arrival of goalkeeping coach Eric Steele, the former Manchester City coach arrives at Ewood Park having left Eastlands last month. His arrival is seen to be part of Ince’s ongoing restructuring of the backroom staff at Ewood Park, which has seen fitness coaches Mark Howard and Duncan Russell also arriving this week.
