Thompson is likely to take the senior role with Parkes staying on as assistant and our sources indicate another coach may join them should they get the role full time.
Applications have already been lodged but Oyston wants consistency and stability in the day to say running of the football team. It's a good idea on paper, after all Parkes and Thompson know the players already and not much would have to change. A change at this time in the season could be disastrous.
Oyston speaking to the Blackpool Gazette said "I've had discussions with both of them and as things stand with Simon having left, Tony and Steve are now in charge until further notice, What happens next? Nothing happens next. This is an indefinite appointment and I'm not prepared to set a timescale or indeed a deadline."
He added "In an ideal world Tony and Steve would do fantastically well and both seamlessly take over the club. I think upheaval never serves the best interests of a football club so to appoint from within is generally, in my experience and opinion, the best way forward. I am going to continue to monitor the situation and obviously it is very fluid at the moment. But that is the situation and I'm setting no deadlines and not having any timescales imposed."
Oyston is said to be keen on promoting from within, Simon Grayson was first a reserve team coach before managing them. He eventually went on to manage the first team. Steve Thompson has taken a similar path and could end up as Blackpool manager until the end of the season should Blackpool do well. The same situation as when Grayson took over.
