He told the BBC that was sorry to see Simon leave but explained Simon's decision. He said "I'm sorry because he's a very good manager. He worked hard and did well. But Simon is going for two reasons. One is that he has an affinity with Leeds and the other is that he lives 25 minutes away from their ground."
There is no word yet on if Armfield will be consulted on who the Seasiders should ellect as there next manager but Armfield does have some ideas but insists he also has faith in both Parkes and Thompson. He said "Assistant manager Tony Parkes has been around and there's Steve Thompson as well, Both of them have been with Simon day in and day out, so it may be left to them to handle the situation until somebody is appointed. There are people like Billy Davies and Adie Boothroyd out of work. There's always managers looking for jobs."
Armfield hopes whoever takes over can build on Simon's success and but at the same time bring his own ideas in and breath new life into the club. He said "Let's be honest, it's not an affluent area. They're doing very well for what there is and I still think there's potential here, I hope they get somebody who'll freshen things up a bit and have one or two ideas of his own."
Former Leeds boss Howard Wilkinson spoke to SkySports about Grayson's appointment and said "Simon Grayson is an ideal choice for Leeds, He's had to compete with people with far greater resources than he has but he's got the results for Blackpool. He's shown he has got talent."
