Review: VS Southampton

Home of First Win
By Danny Reeds August 31 2008
A must win game for Blackpool turned into a joyous occasion as Blackpool finally won at Southampton which they haven’t done since 1966 after a Ben Burgess Pen just on half time sealed a win for the travellers and moves them into 16th place. With the game on SkySports most fans opted to fill the pubs and have a few pints while watching the Pool rather then travel.

It was a lively first half as shots flying in from both teams and early on Blackpool could of taken the lead from Ian Evatt after a corner from Hammill found Evatt's head only to fire wide. GTF followed up the chances when excellent work from Hammill found GTF on far post only for him to get it stuck under his foot. Southampton looked to have taken the lead after a cross from the left came in as Evatt and Chubs collided and the ball fell to McGoldrick and swung a shot only for Chubs to get a save and Edwards to clear off the line. The same happened from a corner as it was flown in Chubs clattered down to the floor while the ball was cleared of the line

The game looked to go into halftime 0-0 and the chance for fans to beat the pie and pint queue but the wise soon became the stupid as 1 minute into added time White brought down GTF and Marrinerr gave a pen which Burgess converted for his 2nd goal from another penalty. Unleash the Birdman!

Half Time Southampton 0-1 Blackpool

If you thought the first half was nerve wracking the 2nd topped it as 2 disallowed goals from Kabba Burgess and GTF again coming close and McGoldrick rattling the bar were the highlights of the 2nd half. Kabba could of sealed a hat trick after a corner floated in and kabba forced the goal only to be called offside showing Kabba was an inch offside. His second came after a shot from Fox clipped off his foot but was the ball going in????

Burgess forced a great save from Davis as his shot cannoned of Davis’s hand to come off the post. While his near post effort was well saved by Davis. McGoldrick unleash a thunderbolt and rattled it off the bar in added time.

But it was Blackpool who went home the happier all hailing Burgess for his 100% effort aswell as the whole team as a Lengthy journey turned into a happier return to the Seaside.
