A new feature on Tangerine-Planet, as we know the Tangerine Time Machine is really popular; however it can only make one journey a week. Which is why we've decided in our new feature, Classic Encounters! We'd highlight six blast's from the past! Who know's one day the TTM may just visit these Classic Encounters.

15th March 1947, Blackpool  beat Sheffield United with goals from Morty, Monro and Dick (2). The game ended 4-2 to the seasiders.

16th April 1963, Ray Charnley scores as does team-mate Quinn (2) as the Seasiders beat Sheffield United 3-1.

10th October 1964, 20,839 gathered at Brammal Lane to see Sheffield get beat 3-1 by the Seasiders! Goals came from Horne, Ball and Charnley.

30th March 1970, Les Shannon’s side play to a crowd of nearly 20,000 at a packed Bloomfield Road. They were treated to a 1-0 win for the seasiders as John Craven helped Blackpool beat Sheffield United.

12th April 1977, Blackpool smash five passed Sheffield. Newspaper headlines read “Sizzling Seasiders Slaughter Sheffield” the day after. The game ended 5-1 with Walsh getting a hat-trick and Hatton and Ronson also scoring. For more on this game see this week’s Tangerine Time Machine.

10th October 1980, 13,331 stood in the cold at Bloomfield Road to see a Thompson double see off the Blades 2-1.

We're constantly looking for more information on all things Blackpool history related. If you think you can help, please contact me on liamhague@hotmail.com
