Review vs Bristol City

Impressive on debut.

The season started with a 1-0 defeat at home to Playoff Final Flops Bristol City after a 90th minute goal from Steve Brooker with the home side dominating throughout. It wasn’t the best of days for football as it was raining which wouldn’t be good news to the fans travelling to Bloomfield Road without umbrellas or raincoats but their spirits won’t be dampened with the result that followed.

Wih the fans taking up their seats after a catch up session with fellow friends and a few beers in the concourse it was time to get the 1st game of the season kicked off

Blackpool gave debuts to several players including Rob Edwards at the back playing alongside Evatt, Coid and new signing Mo Camera from Derby on loan. In midfield debuts came from Hammill and Wright playing alongside GTF, Jorgie and Southern with Burgess as a lone striker and god how that was a mistake.

Bristol lined up with new 2.25 million signing Maynard (not worth it!) who missed a hatful of chances (2 open net opportunities)

Bristol had the best chance in the first half as a neat pass from Adebola found Maynard in a one on one with “Chubs” but the shot straight at the keeper meant Paul could parry and claim the chants of USA USA again after the magnificent save. Hammill cause the problems down the left flank doing the Wes Hoolahan tricks but better and whipping in crosses that would put Wes in the dark (Wes WHOolahan)

Burgess then found out why people don’t like him much and why he shouldn’t be a lone striker as to great balls from Hammill and Camera respectively found Burgess but for him to hit the roof of the net or fire wide.

Half Time – Blackpool 0-0 Bristol City

The second half started with a change in Keeper with Wheale coming in place of Basso and he then found out how lucky he really was as the referee bottled a straight red situation (was it first game nerves or what) after Wheale blatant handball outside the box was resulted in a yellow card.

Blackpool then had the best chance late on with Hammill heading down to Southern only for him to miss by a whisker.

The goal came in the 89th minute when Pool failed to clear a free kick only for sub Brooker to firing in from an angle cur mini pitch invasion from the “welsh”

So defeat for the better side but with Hoolahans army on Saturday could we claim the win at Carrow Road this reporter will find out as the start of my tour round England begins at Carrow Road on Saturday.

Attendance – 8244 (1521 Away)
