Pre-Season (So Far) Round Up

Seasiders in action
By Danny Reedo July 17 2008
Blackpool have been busy in there preseason having played 3 friendly’s in 4 days of each other with still 3 more to go and possibly and tour of Ireland to come. The games have featured a mixture of first teamers, squad players, trialists and youth players. All this and more in Danny Reedo's Pre-Season (So Far) Round up!

Blackpool 2-1 Fleetwood

The Seasiders kicked of their preseason with a win against the Cod Army. With the Highbury set for reconstruction the capacity was limited but didn’t stop a bumper crowed to watch the match. Mcphee got the game started within 2 minutes with a sublime chip of the keeper while Burgess netting the second before the half came to a close. The second half saw a number of trailist coming on one being a bee gee/ Jesus lookalike which really got the crowd going. The second half was a bit dull but Baptiste brought down a ton player in the box which led to Milligan converting the pen for a concilation

Blackpool 1-1 FK Jurmala

Blackpool headed for their Latvian tour the day after playing two games in 24 hours. FK Jurmala fielded former Pool loanee Pavels Steinbors who was called into a great save from Mcphee. FK had a number of chances to take the match before the half ended but all were not take well the same said about Southern and Fox efforts on goal.

FK took the lead in the second half from another penalty this time Green tripped Hilniks with Kuznecovs converting. Blackpool equalised in the 90th minute thanks to an unknown trailist.

Blackpool 0-4 Skonto

Blackpool’s Skonto curse continues as the title chasing Latvian team turned Blackpool over. Blackpool had 7 on the injury bench and within 10 minutes Mcphee and Semjonovs were sent off after a coming together after a challenge which brought back memories of Evatt getting the red card last preseason against Skonto from there Blackpool’s plan unravelled. Skonto were 2-0 up before the half hour mark and 3-0 up before half time with goals from Kalnins (2) and Pahars respectively. The second half began better for Pool with Jorgie and Southern notching up efforts but Pool became 4-0 down when sub Blanks struck it past Chubs in goal. A five was on the cards for Skonto but a curling shot hit the side netting

Blackpool now have a minimum of 3 games to go till the season starts against Wrexham (Sat), St Mirren (29th) and Tranmere (2nd) and have to get the team together, nurse the injuries and get the team to gel if they want to be ready for Bristol City on the 9th

I'm always mystified about how we perform in pre-season friendlies. Do we take them seriously enough or what? The results so far this year have been abysmal. As far as a confidence boosting exercise is concerned it's been counter productive. We seem to be sending out negative vibes at the moment what with the results and the so called injury crisis and we haven't even started the season yet. Good job I'm not suffering from depression, otherwise I could be suicidal. All we need now is for our sponsor to go bust. (Sm22)
