Paddy Preview: Vs Watford

Rocket Man!
By Paddy May 3 2008
The end of Blackpool’s first season in the Championship is nigh, and it could hardly be any tighter although This season is one which will god down in history, with fantastic derby wins against Preston and Burnley, and a wonderful opening day at Leicester. One thing is for certain, that if Blackpool do go down, then the fans must stay behind them all the way.

Pool welcome Watford to the Seaside on the final weekend, knowing that a point will make them safe. However, it won’t be easy, as they face a Watford side which, despite being the Championship front runners for the first half of the season, are still yet to secure their play off place. With Blackpool knowing that if they lose and the four teams below them all win in their vital clashes, then the Seasiders will be relegated.

Blackpool are likely to welcome back Gary Taylor-Fletcher, who missed the trip to Plymouth as his wife went into labour. The winger should replace Stuart Green, who will want to forget his Blackpool career so far, which has been blighted with injuries, and has yet to impress. He will have the summer to recuperate, and will hopefully come back as the player the Pool fans witnessed pull them apart numerous times in enemy colours. Blackpool are definitely without Stephen Crainey again, after it was confirmed he will need an operation on his hamstring, meaning that either Michael Jackson will keep his place, or Danny Coid will come in at left back with Gorkss moving central. The Seasiders will also lose Paul Dickov, as his loan from Manchester City expired after the trip to the coast.

Likely Pool line-up:

Rachubka

Barker (c) Evatt Gorkss Coid

Taylor-Fletcher Jorgensen Southern Hoolahan

Burgess McPhee

Subs: Flinders, Jackson, Flynn, Green, Morrell

Watford know that a win will not only cement their place in the playoffs, but may also doom their opponents, and manager Aidy Boothroyd is expected to name his strongest side in attempt to condemn the Seasiders. They are likely to line up in a 4-4-2 formation, with former Pool loan man Danny Shittu at the heart of the defence, and the Hornet’s current second top scorer this season in all competitions.

Likely Watford Line-up:

Lee

Bromby DeMerit (c) Shittu Stewart

Smith Eustace O’Toole MacAnuff

Priskin Henderson

Prediction: Blackpool 1-1 Watford
