It's The BFC News round

Dickov Off?
By Rocky64 April 25 2008
This week was yet another busy week in Tangerine Town and thus we have lots of news to cover in this week's John Craven Style news round. This week more interest in Dickov, The latest on contract renewals, Blackpool's Latvia tour plan, a cash pledge for Larry, TANGERINE-TOURNAMENT news and more.

We'll start with news which broke last weekend. Once again a number of Sunday newspapers were speculating as to Paul Dickov's future in there gossip sections. The latest rumour is that he'll end up in the MLS! According to the report in The Mirror it is Toronto who are lining up a move for the player. This is in addition to the contract offer he's already received from Perth Glory.

As much as we love the MLS here on Tangerine-Planet, I have to say that it's important we try and retain Paul Dickov next season. He's everything we lack and has been a major part of our  survival fight.

So has Paul Rachukuba according to Simon Grayson in a rare moment of public praise for a player. Grayson said to the Blackpool Gazette "It's strange because prior to Saturday Paul had very little to do for a few game. Nobody has really been peppering his goal and that is credit to the rest of the team."

He added "But despite that he found himself picking the ball out of his net six times in the previous two games against West Brom and Cardiff. He had to concentrate on Saturday and when it really mattered he pulled off a very good save."

Grayson offered a huge thanks to 'Chubs' who he says has had a good year. Grayson said"That's what he is paid to do and you expect your keeper to make saves. But it was crucial and helped us to earn three big points, so we are grateful to him. He has had a good year and I am very happy with the way he has performed."

Simon Grayson has received a massive boost ahead of next season.  Latvian director Normunds Malnaks told the Blackpool Gazette that Grayson will be backed this summer with "additional funds".

Malnaks told the Gazette "There has been no game that we haven't given 100 per cent in and from the many games I have seen, there isn't one side that has stood well above our shoulders.

He added "This should give us all a sense of optimism for next season, even though many promoted clubs find their second season at a higher level is much more difficult. Nevertheless the board feels optimistic about the future and the manager will be given additional funds to strengthen the team next season."

A tour to Latvia has also been confirmed. A game will take place against Skonto Riga on July 15th with another game two days before on July 13th. So it is assumed the club will fly out on July 12th and return following the Skonto Riga game, although they may fly elsewhere for another tour.

Just a quick plug we have our Blackpool Awards for Tangerine Away Supporters. These awards will be sent out to the clubs who win them so please get voting. You can get there by clicking the string below.

Moving on and it's Claus Jorgenson who is one of a few seaside stars awaiting a new contract. However this week Grayson revealed he must wait until the Seasiders are safe before a decision is made he said "As I've already said, I want to wait until we get 100 per cent safe and only then will I announce what I'm going to do."

Simon wiles scored again this Wednesday as Blackpool Reserves got beat by a strong Morecambe Reserve team 2-1. This was yet another disappointing defeat for the Reserves but will hopefully do better next season.

Another quick reminder and we're looking to run a Blackpool Summer Trip (NOTE THE NAME CHANGE WE AIN'T CAMPING WE'LL BE IN FARMHOUSE OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT) So if your interested please get in touch. The details are at the string below.

Another TP Event we will be running this summer is the Tangerine-Tournament. We've decided to return to our traditional  date for the event. Having it the first Sunday before the start of the season.

We decided to do this as it's a nice way to reacquaint yourself with your football mates before the season starts. We're already taking team bookings and looking for sponsors, so email tangerine.planet@hotmail.co.uk If you wish to pay in advance we will now do that.

All funds will go into our 10k for 2010 appeal, as the £150 from previous events we currently have for the club will as-well.

Speaking of the 10k for 2010 campaign. A few people have suggested doing a fun run. Of course again we will do this, however we need a sufficient turn out of runners to do so. We're looking to get 15+ for a run and we'd ask all them pay and entry fee and acquire sponsorship as-well to raise money.

If your interested email tangerine.planet@hotmail.co.uk, when theres big enough interest we will organize a date. Anyway thats a wrap a new TP events section will emerge shortly to keep your up to date with the latest TP Events!
