Still Popular!
The shock of the voting is that more fans have voted to retain Keigan Parker then Ben Burgess, Grant Holt or Andy Morrell. It will come as a suprise for some that he picked nearly 9% of the votes, because the striker has admitted he wants to leave at the end of the year. But this vote reinforces that some fans still believe he can do us a job.
Unsuprisingly Stephen McPhee ran away with the majority of the votes; picking up nearly 50% of the votes. It just goes to show, even though he hasn't been prolific since signing, he's still a well recieved player who has shown enough ability to win over the fans. With a 300k price tag, Blackpool's record signing has a lot of pressure on his shoulders. But a full summer working on fitness and hopefully he'll come good.
The runner-up on last week's vote was Paul Dickov. However whether we can retain him full time in another question. His fitness does worry me, but he does always look like scoring when he does pull on that tangerine shirt. Realistically I can see him going elsewhere although I will be thrilled if we sign him full time.
But he must take a pay cut first, i'm afraid for the wages he is on, we could get three decent championship players. Sometimes the wider picture is more important and I think this is one of them.
We ommitted Danny Mitchley from the vote as he hasn't broke into the first team yet and it's unrealistic that we would get rid. But on loan Grant Holt was included and he managed to take just 4% of the votes. The votes of course are voting to retain the player and coming last means people want to see the back of you. Maybe he isn't good enough, but I don't beleive we've seen enough to decide yet.
Andy Morrell and Ben Burgess took nearly 7% of the votes each. My brain say's its time for Andy Morrell to go and some people have claimed I have an agenda against the player, ever since I criticised him during a live interview on BBC Radio Coventry and Warwickshire. He's just not upto this level and anyone who say's otherwise is just making excuses based on loyalty. He had a good season last year and that is the Andy Morrell I want to be remembered.
Ben Burgess is likely to remain, with Larry spending 100k on him last year it would be very stupid to let go of a big money signing. Also Ben's come into some form this season and been highly impressive. Hopefully him and Stephen McPhee can hit it off on a massive scale and we'll see 40 goals from uptop next season.
For me only McPhee and Burgess will remain. Mitchley will step up to do the Kiegan Parker cover role and another couple of strikers will be signed and hopefully we may see Dickov sign on a full time basis, although I find it unlikely.
Next up on the seaside polls, we're asking you to decide which midfielders would you retain? Happy Voting!
