New Striker! In Profile

On loan!
By Rocky64 March 20 2008
After joining on loan until the end of the season, we decided to to take a look at our new 26 year old striker Grant Holt. But does his history indicate whether he has the pedigree to step up to the Championship? We think he's a decent lower league player who has shown potential to succeed. But well let you make your own mind up!
Full name Grant Holt
Date of birth 12 April 1981 (age 26)
Place of birth   Carlisle, England
Height         6' 0"
Playing position Striker

Profile: Grant Holt started his playing career at Halifax, but soon found himself out on loan to Barrow and impressed enough to be signed to a full time deal. He scored 35 goals in 69 goals and briefly had a loan spell at Sengkang Marine where he scored 14 goals.

2003 saw him move to Sheffield Wendnesday where he played 24 games, however the majority came from off the bench and he only managed to score 3 goals. A move to Rochdale soon followed and he soon started grabbing people attention. 34 goals in 75 apps won him a move to Nottingham Forest where he  has won player of the season once and scored 20 goals in 92 apps.

An interesting fact about the Cumbrian is that he's scored on his debut for all of his English clubs and that can only be a good omen. Winning the player of the Season at a big club like Nottingham Forest shows he has the potential. But can he translate that potential to his performance?
