Agogo: Egypt
By The Daily Red June 13 2008
Nottingham Forest and Ghana star Junior Agogo has sealed a lucrative move to Egyptian giants Zamalek. The 28-year-old hitman, who became a national hero in Ghana during the African Nations Cup, will cost the Egyptian side just over £950,000. Full story here.

The transfer comes after months of speculation linking Agogo with moves to clubs as established as Premier League Portsmouth.

But the transfer fee likely to be received by Forest is considerably less than the figures exceeding £2.5m that had been suggested in Britain’s tabloid press.

Agogo, real name Manuel, will earn £5,000 per week in Egypt and will have the opportunity to play in front of 70,000 crowds.

The Ghanaian number nine was settled at the City Ground until his blistering form at the African Nation’s Cup prompted speculation about his future.

Since the tournament Agogo has attracted criticism from sections of the Forest support for waning levels of commitment.

With Grant Holt already well out of favour, Forest now look likely to add to the signing of Robert Earnshaw in the attacking department.

As The Daily Red winds down for the summer, look out for a new-improved site as the pre-season gathers pace.
