Earnshaw Swoop Complete - Reds Land Prolific Rob

Earnshaw: Signed
By The Daily Red May 30 2008
Nottingham Forest have confirmed the signing of Robert Earnshaw for a fee of £2.65m. The Welsh international completed a medical at the City Ground yesterday evening to seal a deal that has been spoken of since before the end of the season. Full story here.

Earnshaw joins Forest after a torrid season with arch-rivals Derby County, and his contract will keep the prolific striker at the City Ground for three years as he looks to rejuvenate his career.

The Welsh hitman bagged over 100 goals for Cardiff City before netting 11 Premiership goals in a short spell with West Brom.

Earnshaw then signed for Norwich in a £3.5m deal where he netted 27 goals in 47 appearances.

His ill-fated move to Derby is the only blot on an otherwise excellent record.

At Pride Park Earnshaw managed only seven starts, with his only goal coming at home to Arsenal.

Chairman Nigel Doughty told the press this morning that he is delighted to capture Earnshaw’s signing, but fans should not expect a tidal wave of transfer activity.

“We've got our list, which is cast in stone, and none of the names that I've seen bandied about yet are on that list.

“We're pursuing our targets and we'd like to bring in two or three more,” he said.

Fans will be hoping that the next ‘two or three’ signings will be of the same quality as this one.

Excellent signing. With Commons heading the other way it is somewhat satisfying to be capturing one of the best players in the Derby squad.

We all know he has been frozen out at Pride Park, and we all know that there must be a reason for that.

But ultimately Earnshaw’s record speaks for itself, and if he can recapture anything of the form he has showcased throughout his career then Forest have a fantastic player on their hands.

There is no doubt that Commons needs to be replaced, and a worthy replacement will not be cheap. But Forest’s speed and determination in the expensive acquisition has to be encouraging.

Let’s just hope Colin Calderwood doesn’t have Earnshaw earmarked for a role on the left-wing…
