Tyson: Winner
News of Southend’s winner at Carlisle sent the Forest faithful home with resurrected dreams of a miracle second place finish.
But with Forest’s improvement in form coinciding with the acceptance of a play-off place, the late drama could yet prove to undermine the overdue momentum.
In recent history Forest and sudden pressure have had an uneasy relationship.
And with imaginations now wandering again, there is a danger of both players and supporters entering the play-offs with disappointment and not excitement on their minds.
The best case scenario is a smash-and-grab for second place that would surely be one of the finest ever recorded at this level of football.
But there is an even greater chance that the sudden pressure will topple Forest from their run of form, or that the Reds will miss out on the final day and enter the play-offs on a low.
Doncaster, just two points behind Carlisle, finish with games against relegated Luton and freefalling Cheltenham Town.
Carlisle travel to lowly Millwall and then face a home tie with Bournemouth, who will likely be relegated before the teams meet.
Even if Forest land two wins from their final two games, it doesn’t look good.
Nevertheless, the fragility of all the sides below Swansea adequately demonstrates just how weak League One is.
And it is difficult not to ponder the position Forest would now be in if they had managed to turn just a small handful of their frustrating home draws into victories.
Whatever happens, Forest must be far more enterprising and far more clinical between now the end of the season (whenever that may be) if they are to achieve anything at all.
