"I've always had a lot of respect for Harry," Hreidarsson told BBC Sport.
"I nearly joined him four years ago at Pompey before I signed for Charlton. It was a tough call not to go then and I'm delighted to have a second chance."

Popmey finished outside of the Uefa Cup qualifying zone, finishing ninth. Hreidarsson asked Redknapp about the ambitions of Pompey before signing on the dotted line, but lets face it, he wouldn't take a lot of persuading would he?
"I had a chat with Harry about the club and their ambitions, but he didn't have to say a lot," said Hreidarsson.
"Last season was a great achievement for them to finish where they did."
Hreidarsson, has made over 50 International appearances with his county, Iceland. The tough man was also linked with a summer move to the Madjeski Stadium to play with Reading.
His signing has been somewhat over shadowed by the arrival of French defender Slyvain Distin who joined Pompey from Manchester City on a three-year deal.
"I know I'm not going to be guaranteed a first-team place," continued Hreidarsson.
