Addicks Down
By Martyn Robinson
May 10 2007
Match report following Charlton Athletic's 2-0 defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur at The Valley. The defeat condems the Addicks to relegation from the Premiership. The Addicks had enjoyed a seven year stay in the countries top flight, but now trips to Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal it will be trips to the likes of Scunthorpe, Colchester and Barnsley. Absolutely fantastic.

Sorry it's taken so long to break the news to you, but I really have just recovered from my drinkin sessions, which incidentally started traight after the Addicks' relegation. Funny eh?

You will have read it many times before by now, but just in case you haven't and you haven't figured out the theme of the article, Charlton Athletic have been relegated to the Coca-Cola Championship.

Dimitar Berbatov and Jermain Defoe goals ultimately won the game for Spurs, who had a great time in sending us down. Thanks Spurs.

All relegated teams say it. "We've gone down now, but its a chance to rebuild and we will come back stronger", sorry to break it to you folks, but that just isn't going to happen.

Darren and Marcus Bent are certainties to leave the Addicks in the summer along with other key members I'm sure.

Rumours have started around London though, that Alan Pardew is set to snap up ex-Burnley and Welsh International keeper Danny Coyne on a free transfer, after Clarets cheif Steve Cotterill's decision to release him earlier this week. Pardew will face competition from Cardiff gaffer Dave Jones, who is also keen on the Welshman's services after a row with number one, Neil Alexander.

We will be back, I don't know how long it will take, I don't know if it will be next season, but I know we will be back! Money mouth

Charlton head to Anfield on the last day of the season to face Liverpool, so to Addicks fans making the trip to Merseyside, simply get behind the boys!
