U19 Focus: England 2 Bosnia 0
By Carly Goodwill
May 29 2009
England’s under 19’s team played Bosnia – Herzegovina on Wednesday night at the Keepmoat Stadium. They left boasting a 2-0 win after Danny Rose and Nile Ranger scored a goal each either side of half time.
England started the game well, making it tough for the Bosnian defence to get possession of the ball. Andrew Tutte had an early chance at a goal after excellent team work from Keiran Trippier and Danny Drinkwater, unfortunately it went over the bar after just five minutes of playing, this was followed in the ninth minute by Nathan Delfouneso's header going over after being crossed from the right by Trippier.

The 19th minute showed the skills of Danny Rose as he created a space 25 yards from goal only to see the ball go over the bar, missing by just inches. Another chance in the 25th minute when Rose took a free kick from the left evaded the Bosnian defence but went wide after at least three England players narrowly missed connecting with the ball.

The Young Lions were once again denied by the woodwork, when Tutte's cross from the right was only half cleared as far as Matthew James in the 28th minute. He hooked a shot at goal which looped over goalkeeper Mato Masic which then bounced back off the bar.
Bosnia played with just captain Haris Handzic up front, they looked to take advantage when possession was given away by the hosts. On a couple of occasions, they almost managed it but England were just quick enough to protect Goalkeeper Jason Steele
Eventually  Delfouneso helped England to break them down when he beat Miroslav Stavanovic down the right before he chipped it across to the far post followed by Rose heading it firmly into the net giving England a well deserved lead at half time.

Bosnia nearly equalised just 4 minutes into the second half when Handzic played the ball to  Anes Haudic on the left who hit his first shot both high and wide. They looked keen to even out the score when just before the hour mark Edin Visca took the ball from substitute Victor Moses then smashed it into the side netting  They then came even closer just short of the hour mark when Edin Visca robbed the ball off substitute Victor Moses before crashing an angled shot into the side netting.

Steele had to make a fantastic save in the 70th minute for England to keep their lead when Gadzo's free kick from 25 yards looked to be heading into the top corner until the Middlesbrough keeper leapt up to flick it over the bar.

As the end of the game approached the attacking was all England and they nearly secured a win in the 78th minute when Moses passed to  Trippier on the right. He was lined up perfectly for Ranger but he mistimed his header. Moses and Delfouneso played a few passes before Moses had a shot at goal, which was deflected over the bar by Nermin Bicakcic.

England finally secured their win in the 85th minute, when Joe Mattock was fouled on the left to win England a free kick. Moses stepped up and kicked a perfect ball for Ranger to head into the goal
whose free kick came through a crowd of bodies only to be superbly gathered by the England stopper in the dying moments.
