"I thought our team did a great job because lately we haven't played as well as
the beginning of the season," said Eriksson, speaking to BBC's Match of the Day.
"This was a very good answer that we are a good team. All the players did an extremely good job."
Benjani Mwaruwari, was singled out for his match winning performance, scoring his first City goal on his first City appearance, shwoing that the controversy surrounding his move to the City of Manchester Stadium from Portsmouth is well behind him.
Eriksson continued: "Benjani was absolutely brilliant. He scored a goal, kept the ball and when United had the ball he worked and worked. He's strong and quick and I'm very happy to have got him."
Speaking to the Official Manchester City website, Sven was clearly a proud man, of a side that just 12 months ago were struggling in the midtable of the Premiership, and after building on some excellent foundations at the City of Manchester Stadium, the push for Europe is now well and truely in full swing.
"Six points against Manchester United in one season is very good.
"Everyone belonging to City, the fans, players and directors, should be very proud of what they did here today.
"I think we deserved to win. We created more chances so we're very happy. It was a great result. I'm really proud of all the players and happy for the fans.
"It was a very important game for us and even more important for United if they want to win the race with Arsenal.
"We had the right spirit and the right attitude. It was a great job. I am extremely pleased and proud of our team. When you go to Old Trafford and win you deserve it.
"Everyone was really up to it and collectively we were fantastic."
