Want to know more about Steve Bruce - here is the place.

Steve Bruce

Factfile: Steve Bruce

Date of birth: 31-12-1960
Born:
Corbridge, Northumberland
Nationality: English

Bruce has eleven years experience as a manager since becoming player/manager with Sheffield United in 1998.

Bruces final game as a player was against Sunderland.

He has since taken charge of seven seasons in the top flight, five with Birmingham City and two with Wigan who he began a second spell with in November 2007 after guiding City to the Premier League in the second automatic promotion spot in the 2006-07 season - two points behind champions Sunderland.

Bruce transformed Wigan, his first game in charge saw the club end their losing streak. His Wigan side also drew with Liverpool at Anfield making him the only Wigan manager to ever take points from one of the 'Big Four'.

Bruce eased The Latics away from danger as they finished 14th in the table - three places and two points higher than their finish the previous season.

Bruce made two of Wigan's biggest signings when Lee Cattermole joined from Middlesbrough and highly rated Egyptian striker Amir Zaki moved to the JJB on a one-year loan.

In his first full season in charge, Wigan finished 11th in the table, just behind Man City and West Ham, guaranteeing them a fifth successive season in the Premier League.

Bruce has a reputation for producing well organised teams and for discovering gems in the transfer market, something he has done exceptionally well at Wigan and something which can only benefit Sunderland.

A brief earlier spell at Wigan in 2001 separated stints as boss of Huddersfield and Crystal Palace before a six year tenure with Birmingham City.

As a player Bruce made 737 league appearances, over 300 of which were for Manchester United where he won three Premier League titles, the FA Cup twice, the League Cup and the European Cup Winners' Cup

However Bruce's first trophy had come when playing for Norwich in the 1985 League (Milk) Cup final against Sunderland at Wembley, Bruce was also named Man of the Match in that final.

Wigan are going down! Made a mistake letting Bruce go so easily.
