SAFC 1-1 Referee

Sunderland come away with the home match against villa with 1 point in a match full of controversy and cheating.
How can a team near the bottom of the league win a game when we are playing 14 men? Sunderland won the game on the final whistle but the ref had to stick his nose into it and spoil the game. Sunderland won a corner with it being 1-1 and danny collins scored a perfectly good goal but the ref disallowed it. To me it seems deja-vu from 2000 when dichio scored for us when james ran into the back of villa defender and the ref disallowed the goal for a foul on the keeper.

Sunderland started off on the back foot but slowly got into the game. Murphy was having a good role to play on the left wing, he was beating his man easily. It was worrying at right back, deano had a shocker and agbonglahor just ran at him over and over again.

Sunderland won a corner from a wallace freekick, wallace whipped the corner in and higginbotham rose above everyone to convert his glancing header into top corner. 1-0 sunderland.

We played quite attacked for about 5 mins after we scored. But agbonglahor started to get into the game and punished dean whitehead often for giving him too much room.

Sunderland didnt see much of the ball in the 1st half, we had 2 good chances though. The 1st one came from a jone shot which was parried to wallace, wallaces shot was deflected across the box and stokes nodded the ball in at the far post, it was ruled out for offside, i couldnt see this from where i was sat so i was unsure.

Just before half time the ball was played in the box, stokes picked it up and did a great turn, created space for himself and rifled a shot towards the top corner but carson tipped it over.

Second half sunderland we still very scrappy and our shape was all over the place. We left men with too much room. Villa won a freekick, i thought it was a bit harsh to be honest. The freekick went in top left hand corner. 1-1.

Villa threatened a bit more with some great crosses from the left but never really had any good shots on the goal.

Stokes had a good chance with a header near the end but he was a bit too far out to get enough power and accuracy on his header.

In the last minute we won a corner... you could feel the buzz that something would happen, leadbitter whipped the cross in and danny collins met it and nodded it down into the net. The referee said there was a foul on the keeper, when actually the keeper came to punch the ball but ran into one of our players.

CHEAT!

Best players, yorkie was immense.... his vision and control really kept us going in this game. Stokes had his best game for us, very attacking and was looking to run behind the defense quite often, if there was a few better balls he wouldve been clean through on goal. Higginbotham and collins, both of them were good and always in good positions, unlike whitehead on the right side. Murphy, he was very very good on the left wing, beat his man everytime... he was lacking a good delivery though.
