Hibernian youngster Keegan Ayre has begun a trial period at Gillingham. The Canadian Under-20 international begins his trial aiming to impress Gills manager Mark Stimson following a disappointing loan spell at Scottish Second Division part timers Berwick Rangers.

The nineteen-year-old midfielder was signed by Hibernian with high hopes for the young Canadian, however since a change of manager at Hibs Ayre fell out of favor and was shipped out on loan to part-time side Berwick Rangers where he failed to make an impression.

Ayre signed for Hibs from Canadian side British Columbia beating competition from fellow SPL side Hearts, Sheffield Wednesday,West Brom and Wolves for the then seventeen year old.

He had won Canadian Young Player of the Year leaving Hibs with high hopes at Easter Road however he has failed to make the grade at Hibs’ successful youth academy.

Ayre has until the end of the season to impress Stimson as he is available for a free transfer when his contract is up.
