Former Gillingham star Sidibe stabbed by Togo fans
By Jack Nolan October 15 2007
Former Gillingham striker Mamady Sidibe has been stabbed whilst on international duty with Mali. There are conflicting reports as to what injuries he has sustained following the attack, but it is very likely he will be out for several months at least.

Former Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham star Freddy Kanoute was also one of the Mali players caught up in the fan troubles. Mali won the game by two goals to nil sparking the crowd troue.

Sidibe, 27, now plays for Championship outfit Stoke City, and played over 100 games for The Gills in all competitions.

About the attack, Stoke manager Tony Pulis said:  "Mamady was knifed and is in a bad way.

"I've only got scant details but it would appear that he was the subject of a knife attack by a spectator at the match. He has managed to speak to our physio but it does not sound very good."
