Stanley made it 2 wins out of 5 as they won comfortably 4-1 against Conference side Northwich Victoria.

The game initially was a very scrappy affair, with neither of the teams being able to finish off their chances.  Romould Boco went close after 15 minutes with an ambitious over head kick but it didn't trouble new Northwich 'keeper Phil Senior. The 'keeper had recently joined from League One outfit Huddersfield Town. However on the half hour in Gary Roberts broke down the left wing with a perfectly measured cross which was met by the head of midfielder Rommy Boco and it looped into the far right corner of the net. Three minutes before half time former Rochdale striker Kevin Thompson  rounded Stanley 'keeper Dunbavin only to see his shot cannon off the post.

Into  the second half, and Stanley where by far the better side and only 2 minutes into the half, summer recruit Sean Doherty broke into the 18 yard box and let leash a superb shot over the goalkeeper. Ian Craney also went close but it was tipped over the bar by Phil Senior. Stanley made it three on the 60 minute mark, with Gary Roberts' corner kick into the penalty area where Michael Welch rose above the Victoria defence to head a perfect goal. Midfielder Nicky Platt who is currently on trial from neighbours Burnley came onto the field to the tune of 'Coronation Street' as it was being hummed by both sets of fans. On 65 minutes, Peter Cavanagh brought down a Northwich player (to be confirmed) and the resulting penalty kick was converted by Jonny Allan. Within 5 minutes, that penalty kick was soon a distant memory when David Brown, turned and shot straight into the top left corner of the net.

Next up is Blackpool on Wednesday evening. Yes that right, two games in two nights but there it will surely be a team of different faces.

The Stanley Team:
Dunbavin (Donlon), Richardson, N'Da, Welch, Cavanagh, Doherty (Harris), Craney (Procter), Howell (Platt), Roberts, Boco, Brown - Attendance 345
