Notts County end their pre-season matches with a draw at Meadow Lane against a strong Sheff Utd side. A crowd of just fewer than 2,500 saw both clubs have a chance to win the match that ended goalless.

Steve Thompson made nine changes at half time ahead of our trip to Lincoln in our first game of the new season.

Gary Silk and Matt Somner were unable to start due to injuries, which saw Dan Gleeson and Tom Curtis playing, with Curtis playing in midfield along side Ian Ross, who is on loan from Sheff Utd.

The two injuries also saw scholar Rob Austin and Sam Craven start on the bench, in total Notts used twenty players, eighteen professionals and two scholars.

Sheff Utd’s starting XI was worth over £10 million with Short, Ifill, Davies, Hulse, Webber and Unsworth all starting.

The first half saw the Magpies match their premiership opponents who showed signs that guided them to promotion last season with Hulse looking strong and powerful.

In the first half hour both sides looked equally matched with the main battle being in the middle between Curtis & Ross and Tonge & Quinn, with neither sides pulling out of any tackles made.

After half an hour saw Sheff Utd’s Hulse have a powerful shot saved by Pilkington and a Quinn free kick smashed against the crossbar after Gleeson fouled Webber on the edge of the box.

Notts County’s Parkinson was denied on the turn by a Kenny block after a pass by Pipe.

The second half saw Notts come out with the same passion and desire they showed in the first half. With the players showing they are worthy of a place in the starting line-up against Lincoln.

N’Toya did an acrobatic overhead kick which came close to being a tremendous goal and was greeted with an rapturous applause. Martin also had a chance from a free kick that went a little too high.

Hulse volleyed over late on and Rob Austin made a superb block from Webber has the game began to lose pace, which had been fairly high until the latter stages.

Notts County: Pilkington (Deeney), Pipe (Sheridan), McCann (Needham), Edwards (Hunt), White (Rob Austin), Gleeson, Parkinson (Craven), Curtis, Ross (Martin), Dudfield (N’Toya), Lee (Mendes).

Sheff Utd: Kenny (Bennet), Geary, Unsworth, Davies (Gyaki), Short (Law), Armstrong, Ifill (Naughton), Tonge Hulse, Webber, Quinn (Nade).
