Steve Thompson is looking to add a centre-back to the squad and is in talks with a defender who would provide us with options in the squad, if he puts pen-to-paper.

We have only have 2 recognised centre-backs, being Mike Edwards and Alan White and with youngsters Tommy Hannigan and Bobby Wilson being the only two back-up players for that position and has I have mention in our key players write-up, are still yet to make their professional debuts.

Thompson told Magpie World: “We are still looking for a midfielder who can get from box-to-box, especially a player who can break forward.”

“It is no secret that I have been speaking to another player who is a centre back. I am very much hoping he will join us in the next week.”

“If we can get him in it offers competition to the squad. It will allow ‘Eddy’ to be able to play at the back or even move into midfield if the case need be.”

“It also adds flexibility to the squad, so it is a move I hope will pay off because it brings options and that flexibility to the team.”
