In part 1 we looked at Kevin Pilkington in goal, now in part 2 we will look at 4 of our 9 defenders, starting with our number 3 Austin McCann and continuing by squad numbers.

Austin started his career as a trainee with Wolves before signing for Airdrie for just under 4 years making over 80 league appearances and scoring 7 league goals. He then went on to sign for Hearts and then moved for free to Clyde and then finally ended up at Boston in the summer of 2004, where he made over 76 league appearance and scored 1 goal but moved to us this month. In total he has made 197 appearances in the league.

Austin moved to Meadow Lane from Boston during the summer and has yet to appear for the Magpies, so itís a case of wait to see if he can impress his new manager.

Next is number 4, Mike Edwards who started out his career as a trainee for Hull and played there from 1997 to 2003, before moving to Colchester in March of 2003 and then moving August 2003 for free to Grimsby.

Mike then left Grimsby on a free in April 2004, and had all praise from his former employers having been a regular with Hull making 165 league appearances, but in his tenth game for the Magpies, he snapped a cruciate ligament in his knee playing against West Ham during September 2004, which seen him spend the rest of the season sidelined, but with treatment seen him start to train with the team before the end of the season.

He returned during 2005-2006 season to make 45 league appearances and scoring 7 goals. And with his height of 6ft could be crucial in defence.

Now our number 5 and Team Captain Alan White, Alan started his career has a trainee for Middlesbrough before moving to Luton for £40,000 in 1997 making 62 League appearances and 19 as sub. Then moved to Colchester on loan for a month in 1999 before transferring to them in the summer of 2000 for free and making 128 League appearances while there.

In the summer of 2004 he moved to Leyton Orient, where he spent just under a year before moving to Boston United last year. Now at Notts, moving in the summer of this year, he has been handed the job has Team Captain and will be looking to do his best in defence.

Now our number 8, Daniel Martin, only 19 but started out at Derby, not only has he appeared for England Youth he has also appeared for Wales under 21. Joined us in August last year and made 16 appearances and 6 has a sub last season. Will be looking to make more appearances but I guess he will be a back up. Can play at either left back, central defence or in central midfield. While at Derby failed to make an appearance in First Team but did get appearances for Derbyís Youth Team and season before last was captain of their youth team.

So far we have looked at Goalkeeper and 4 Defenders and my ratings are listed below.

Goalkeeper
Kevin Pilkington: 7
Defenders
Austin McCann: 7
Mike Edwards: 7
Alan White: 8

Keep an eye out for part 3, where we will look at the other 5 Defenders.
