Much like a Monday morning in offices around the world, some of the Alfred Dunhill Links competitors were offering suspect reasons for their apparent no shows in Scotland last week. Ernie Els had a sore back. Darren Clarke said he felt sick. Miguel Angel Jimenez retired with an unspecified illness - which altogether sounds like a heavy night drinking session and a game of Twister that Els lost. Wild speculation aside, Jimenez failed to finish but he did complete the team event with partner Hugh Grant. It's bit of an odd couple but we can only guess Miguel was pimping his ride.... well, his nickname is the Mechanic. Is backing the Spaniard to win the Madrid Masters clutching at straws? Thurs 7am SS1
