Cullips departure was accurately predicted by the media and many of the fans, and it follows the recent decision to sell Darren Currie to Ipswich for £250,000.
The money from the two sales is being used to fill what Mark McGhee described as the "Black Hole" - the £2,500,000 deficit the club is currently running due to the planning enquiry. Much of the money to fill this was expected to be raised by donations to the Alive and Kicking fund, but as these have been somewhat low, some players have had to be shipped out.
In addition to the departures of Cullip and Currie, the Guardian has suggested that Everton will buy Daniel Harding for £700,000 in the Premiership transfer window in January. The England Under 21 player has been playing somewhat out of form recently, and has been blamed by fans for both goals at Milwall, so it is likely the club will let him go to a suitably high bidder. Glasgow Rangers are also said to be interested.
