Luis Valencia to miss Vitesse Arnhem Friendly
By Alan G
August 11 2006
Terrorist threat that needs to be stopped? Or the government cranking up the fear factor in order to drive through draconian legislation?

Either way, it’s scuppered the chances of new signing Luis Antonio Valencia playing against Vitesse Arnhem tomorrow.

The 21-year-old Ecuador international was due to arrive in England on Thursday to start his season-long loan from Spanish Primera Liga outfit Villarreal. However, ensuing chaos at UK airports following the latest terrorist shenanigans has led Latics officials to delay his planned journey.

Valencia has therefore been unable to meet up with Paul Jewell and train with his new team-mates in time to feature in the club's final pre-season friendly before the new Premiership campaign commences. It means his debut is likely to come in a league game in the forthcoming season.

Valencia has been given a small boost however, as the immigration services have told him he will now receive his visa on his arrival in the UK.

Entry for the friendly against Vitesse Arnhem is £12.00 (£6.00 concessions) East and West Stands only.
