Johnson Bid Accepted
By Rhys Lewis May 27 2006
Everton have had a club record 8.5 million pound bid accepted by Crystal Palace for their striker Andy Johnson. Although it is expected that the fee is not all up front but it is largely based on add ons.
Johnson has been David Moyes main target for the summer having seen his Everton side score only 34 goals this season. However it looked for a while that Everton were not going to be able to match the 8.5m asking fee that Palace chairman Simon Jordan was asking for, having seen bids of this price accepted from Wigan and Bolton. But earlier this evening it was announced that a deal had been struck between the two clubs and Johnson would be arriving on Merseyside for talks tomorrow. It has been reported that Johnson favours a move to Everton and personal terms should not be a problem. If Johnson signs he would become Everton's club record signing beating the previous record when James Beattie signed from Southampton for 6m 18months ago.
