Martyn hasn't played a game for Everton since the 1-1 draw at home to Chelsea in the FA Cup 4th round where he was the Man of the Match. Since then he has had recurring injuries to his ankle and it is feared the former England International has played his last game in proffessional football. However David Moyes is hopeful that this will not be the case and if the scans on Martyn's ankle prove positive he may stay at Everton for one more season.
Moyes said, 'I hope Nigel will come back. He sees a specialist in the middle of next week, his right foot and ankle are in plaster, and he has problems with the other ankle too.'
'A decision will be made once the specialist has had a good look at him, and then how Nigel sees his own future.'
If Martyn has played his last game it was fitting that he went out with a man of the match performance. Martyn signed for Everton in September 2003 for just 750k and has proved to be one of the best signings for any premiership club in recent years. He was absolutly brilliant that season and helped to save Everton from relegation, while earning the Everton player of the season award. Even though he has only been at Everton 3 seasons he will always be loved by Evertonians for what has been 3 memorable seasons.
