The 30-year old verbally agreed to stay at the club in the summer but a few technicalities have since come to light meaning that the Finnish international could leave for nothing next year unless fresh terms can be thrashed out.
Jaaskelainen joined Bolton for a nominal fee from VPS Vaasa in November 1997 and he has since made over 200 appearances for the club since making his debut in an away game at Crystal Palace at the start of the 1998-99 season.
Now rated as one of the best goalkeepers in the top flight, Bolton would certainly miss his presence if he decided to look for pastures new beyond life at the Reebok Stadium.
Speaking to the Bolton Evening News, Jaaskelainen stated that he wants to stay but needs the right deal to accomodate the needs of himself and his family in the years to come.
"It's out of my hands. I don't want to go into details. I let the club and my agent sort out things like that." said the Big Finn
"It would be great to sign a new deal but, if that doesn't happen, I have to look forward, because I have to look after my family."
